Fellow S.S. FRIENDSHIP member Anthony Anzalone played with his band Mikki Maus at the closing of the TV Books show. They were really good which made the night even better.

Blake from Jawbreaker has a new band, Thorns of Life. 

A majority of my childhood memories have Jawbreaker as the soundtrack so this was a big show for me nostalgia-wise.

I guess this was the high school reunion I never had. I’d say that 70% of the crowd were the same “kids” I would see at shows 15 years ago… I’ve aged well.

With the end of Cali’s old blog I thought it only fitting to pay tribute by sharing a little bit about myself today. Lately I’ve been getting messages from people telling me how much happier I seem in person as well as through this blog. I attribute said changes to the fact that 1. I’m older, 2. I have great friends, 3. I’m working on some really inspiring projects and 4. I really love my girlfriend. If you have known me for more than a couple years you know how weird it is for me to say such things let alone write them down to share with the internet. Whatever, I’m way psyched on my life and excited for the future.

It was great. For months I have been telling Cali how I wanted to make a zine of portraits of the people who showed up at the openings and for months I always seemed to be too “busy” to get off my ass and go do it. The days of being too tired/busy to shoot portraits on the sidewalks of Echo Park are over… Here are a few images of 300 I took that night. I will have a zine ready in time for the next Hope Gallery opening so come by if you want one.
 

Keeping the dream alive is a full time job.

Trace just got back from Japan with a new hairdo and these amazing pocket sized flashes that sync to the flash on your camera. Harnessing light in the palm of your hand is what I can only assume it feels like to be a cop or maybe Jesus…

Vava is one of my favorite photographers he came to town to work on a new book project. I met Vava when I was a scared little kid in NYC. I have learned a lot from him over the years and would probably have a very different career if we had not met and more importantly if he hadn’t taken me under his wing.

Blake is home from tour and has posted a new AMAZING song… He is now getting ready to head off to NYC to defend his title belt in a guitar shred off… (seriously)

I’m really liking this.

Hope Gallery had another awesome opening. Cali continues to do it for the “kids” and he’s got to be almost a hundred…

I’m not on the east side very often so its always special when I run into people like Rene who remind me that the world has way more amazing people in it than one would think. Rich Dad. Poor Dad.

Dawes played last week. If you’re a single guy in Los Angeles looking for a hot rich white teenage girlfriend you should be at these shows…
