I met Jana in New York when she was 16 or 17. She had only been in the city a couple weeks and had already been lured away from the safety of her models apartment by a Haitian club promoter named Kiki.

For some reason Haitians loved me and Dill. We were granted access to all the bullshit that the wall street dudes waited in line for, plus we didn’t have to pay for it.

Anyway, I was a young photographer, she was a young model and it was a long time ago. Over the years we would shoot together every once in awhile…

I saw her in LA a couple weeks ago for the first time in years. We shot some photos at the house for fun and the rest were the only photos I could find to give some sort of index of the last 10 years.

I’m pretty sure that these photos are from May or June 2001. Me, Dill and Ty left the city to go skate with Gino and Keenan out in Long Island. I can’t believe that these photos are 7 years old. This was the last day I spent with Keenan. He passed away not long after these photos were taken.

We shot Bill Ward yesterday at the Echo.

We spent over 3 hours talking about the history of Sabbath and his friendship with Ozzy. Was really moving to hear how close they still are and how important their friendship is for the both of them.

HAMBURGER EYES

Cali and his friends from Family opened a space in Echo Park called the Hope Gallery. I made the trek to the east side for the opening of the Hamburger Eyes show and was not disappointed. It feels good to know you can still get inspired by a room full of B&W photos.

BEING TRUE

A couple months ago I was invited to be in a photo show that Nike was putting on to celebrate 22 years of sneaker dominance and questionable child labor practices. I personally have the deepest admiration for Nike and their creative solutions to meet consumer demand and competitive price points, naturally, I was extremely excited… Anyways, The show turned out great and I hear that 8 out 10 people agree with me. After the show was up for a month in LA and NY they had a closing reception where Patrick and I were invited to talk about ourselves in front of a live audience.
Aaron and Emma made a Book for the show. It turned out really nice even though its not really a book but more a box with nice prints in it. (photo stolen from Cali’s blog)
