Back in April I was in Australia shooting Ksubi’s 10 Year Anniversary for Nylon Magazine. Here are some of my favorites and few of the interviews that accompanied a few of the photos.

I have my own art studio and I also put on exhibitions to help other artists sell their work.  I dont do anything on Mondays.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH KSUBI?

We have been friends since their jeans were baggy- really baggy.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE KSUBI MOMENT?

The 2005 show full of our friends dressed as faux celebrities.  And the first big warehouse sale where we all got drunk in Lycra monkey suites and the rats, the rats, the rats.  I will never forget how these guys just went for it.

Fuck, thats a lot of weekends.

I put it down to the baggy jeans.

Eating magic mushrooms chocolates in my garage, stapling each other to the walls.

Stealing and awesome eagle studded jacket worth a million dollars.

Juvenile delinquents never grow up.

WHAT IS YOUR CONNECTION TO KSUBI?

Way back in the day George Garrow, Steve Garrow, Cowboy, and I shared a house together on the golden sands of Souh Narrabeen. We ate a lot of chocolate-coated mushrooms and surfed a lot of the outer reefs in monstrous 50-year storm swells. We drank chilled rosé and engaged in a lot of philosophical debate. I subscribed to Jungian belief that “the creative mind plays with the object it loves.”  George was a fan of Frued’s: “We are never so defenseless against suffering as when we love.” As far as I can tell, both theories were foundation stones in the eventual birth of Ksubi.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE KSUBI MOMENT?

We were in a yellow shed with broken windows in Ozzie’s backyard and George and Dan and Ozzie were creating the first collection. On the door was a painting of a palm tree with the words ITS A STRANGER IN PARADISE scrawled underneath. Inside, a Czech girl with pigtails was dancing to some song that I cant remember in her underpants.  You could smell the burning weed.  It felt innocent and dangerous, like a bunch of kids playing with matches and flammable shit, like it could all explode at any second.  And it did, about a week later, when the line launched. It was a sick night.

KSUBI IS 10! WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT?

Like most 10-year-olds, Ksubi is sporting grazed knees and black eyes– and loving it. It’s got a sick new bike and it can do a hell skids and monos.  It’s tried its first cigarette and coughed all over the place, but can’t wait to try it again.  It’s got dirty feet and doesn’t want to shower or bath. It kissed a girl at the bus stop and it dreamed about it every night for two weeks afterwards.  It’s thinking about shaving its head. It’s a fucking little badass.

A booth at fashion week with loads of straight vodka… that’s all i remember.

The Goons played at the Bentley Bar back in the day. It was one of our first ever gigs.

This is my father. For his birthday we raced really fast cars, an Audi R8, a Lambo and a Ferrari. Pushing a LAMBORGHINI GALLARDO into and unintentional 360 was really fun, thanks pop.

3 years ago i drove to spanky’s dads house in mexico with curtis, ako and camille for new years. i fell asleep before midnight so i don’t have any awesome party photos but i did find these of the ride down and new years day.

I went to Las Vegas with this guy for his 60th.

It was a surprise party so we took a bus to make it seem like he was working…

I bet the people staying at this place were way more fun than the rich Euros and Japanese business men that were everywhere at our hotel.

Just 56 floors above one of the my least favorite places in America.

Did I mention how much I love Las Vegas? WTF? Only in Vegas do people hire people to come up with ideas this good… 

We never figured out if this dude was a guest or hired to make us all super uncomfortable. 

In 5 days this is all I could come up with… I’m never going back there.

This is an out take from a shoot with Jason Mewes. I think I asked him to look like he was raped in the shower or something and was self conscious about his body. He reminded me way more of Little Nicky than Jay in real life. Super nice guy and at the end of the shoot he invited us all to come back sometime and watch movies…

To be young and in love.

When we arrived at Tommy’s house at 11-am he asked me if I would like a drink. I asked for a bottle of water, he came back with a Jager shot and a beer. I was impressed by his commitment to keeping a dream alive that I thought died 10 years ago. His party dream wasn’t at all depressing but inspiring. Here is a guy that probably spent his first 17 years of life conjuring up his dream scenario to include 11-am Jager shots well into his 40′s and now that he had it, real life was not gonna get in the way. Oh yeah, there was a framed check for a million bucks above the toilet that was only a few years old… I think he can keep it up for as long as he wishes.

The Roosevelt hotel’s room service can supply you with everything you need to give a friend a tattoo when all the tattoo shops are closed or you’re just too tired to leave your room. Dan was nice enough to donate some space on his chest so  I could prove a point one dark dark evening.

Jordan, Sage and myself shared a room in Miami for art basel last year. We learned a lot about ourselves on that trip that I think I will save for an exclusive post to mark the 1 year anniversary.

I feel like this photo could be a screen grab from a sitcom where the rugged outsider guy becomes Mr. mom and is mixing baby formula in the kitchen while entertaining guests and sharing stories from his shady past.

I met Tim when I was 14 or 15 and he was living in the valley with Jeron. Tim was the first Pro skater I ever hung out with and I was really excited to get the chance to one day shoot photos of him skating… Tim never let me shoot photos of him skating but he did let Sean Sheffy choke me for eating one of his fries.
